Mhamid/Erg Chigaga (4WD/off-road)

A foray into the magical desert…

Book a road trip in our 4WD, along the magnificent DrâaValley, where we will stop for lunch at the TamnougaltKasbah, in Zagora. Once we reach Mhamid, we drive on into the desert, to a tiny oasis with a handful of palm trees, where nomads stop to let their camels drink. There, let the desert atmosphere sink in, as you relax under a tent with afreshly-brewed mint tea.

Erg Chigaga is another 15kms (9 miles) away. The bivouac is set up at the foot of the region’s greatest dune (300 m/100 ft wide and 40 km/25 miles long). That night, enjoy a traditional tagine by the fire, listening to nomad songs beneath the exceptionally starry sky.

In the early morning, we urge you to rise at dawn and gowatch the sunrise from the top of the great dune. Thedesert’s majesty in that light, is a sight to behold. After breakfast, venture further into the desert on a one-hourdromedary ride.

On the way back, we will push on off-road, across theIriki plateau on the site of its dried-up lake, then drive through Tazenakht and the stark landscapes of the Anti-Atlas.
